FORMAL SAFETY POLICY STATEMENT

The written commitment of this facility to provide a safe and healthful workplace, and the assignment of program responsibility.

  • This facility is committed to providing a place of employment free from recognized hazards, in accordance with the OSH Act of 1970, Section 5(a)(1).
  • Management provides the resources, equipment and training necessary to implement the safety program.
  • Every employee is responsible for following the safety rules and reporting unsafe conditions without fear of retaliation.

OSHA REGULATIONS

The federal standards that apply to a medical, dental or laboratory practice, and how enforcement works.

  • 29 CFR 1910.1030 - Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • 29 CFR 1910.1200 - Hazard Communication (aligned to the Globally Harmonized System).
  • 29 CFR 1910.134 - Respiratory Protection.

LABELS & WARNING SIGNS

Container labelling, biohazard warning labels, and required workplace postings.

  • Every shipped container must carry the GHS label: product identifier, signal word, hazard statements, pictograms, precautionary statements and supplier information.
  • Secondary/workplace containers must identify the chemical and its hazards.
  • Labels must never be defaced or removed while the container is in use.

BLOODBORNE STANDARD EXPOSURE CONTROL

The written Exposure Control Plan: engineering controls, work practices, PPE, hepatitis B vaccination and post-exposure follow-up.

  • Lists job classifications and tasks with reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material (OPIM).
  • Reviewed and updated at least annually and whenever new tasks or procedures affect exposure.
  • Documents consideration and implementation of safer engineered sharps devices, with frontline employee input.

FACILITY CLINIC SCHEDULE LOG

The recurring compliance calendar: what must be inspected, tested and documented, and how often.

  • Eyewash station activation and inspection tag signed.
  • Sharps containers checked and replaced at the fill line.
  • Refrigerator and freezer temperature logs reviewed.

REVISED GLOBAL HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD

GHS-aligned Hazard Communication: written program, chemical inventory, SDS access, labels and training.

  • Maintains a list of every hazardous chemical known to be present in the workplace.
  • Describes how labels, SDS and training are handled, including for non-routine tasks.
  • Consumer products used in the same manner and duration as ordinary household use are exempt from SDS requirements.
